DC!

This past weekend I went to DC with a few other co-hort members. They had set up an interview with IJM for a paper we were doing, so I decided to tag along and see some of the sights of the Capital.

On the way down we found out we had taken Emily's bag along with all of our stuff. This was devastating since we have a huge paper due next week! Plus it had her camera in it and she was seeing old friends. How horrible! We decided to come back early in order for her to get her work done.

Friday was a fantastic day! Melissa (our hostess) took us out early to take in a tour! We went into the same rooms congress did as they formed the laws that now govern the US...we also found out some odd things - like the dome above the congress caused sound to bounce off randomly - so people across the room could hear whispers (no secrets allowed!). We also went into a hall of pillars called the crypt where I think Washington was supposed to be buried, but he died before it was completed. So now there's an empty tomb underneath it! Freaky...

After the tour we went to visit Bread for the World - where Melissa used to work. We had a little interview over lunch and then headed off to IJM. We had a great interview and gained a lot of knowledge! It's amazing what was packed into an hour...Heather took 8 pages of notes! I just have to mention my "perma-wink". My contacts were causing me issue so I constantly closed my right eye to stop the pain (yah, taking it out hadn't worked and I couldn't see without them, so I was sort of hooped)...it looked like I had a wink going on all the time! I'm thankful I could control it during the interviews....that might have been a bad impression!

After that we enjoyed the evening by not thinking of the ECON paper we had to finish, instead we ordered thai food and watched a movie. Diane, Laura and I left to get the food, on our way home took a wrong turn onto an interstate highway. We couldn't find a workable exit to loop us around - they all kept connecting with other interstate highways! We called Heather to see if she could help us and just as we did we saw a sign saying Bay Bridge ahead...Diane took the first exit she saw, not wanting to go over a bridge! Amazingly it took us onto the road we needed...how about that!

So what movie should you watch after such a long day? Last of the Mohicans! Classic! Stay....Alive! Words of wisdom from Daniel...

Anyways...that was our crazy weekend in DC :)

Week of FuN!

Last week was full of surprises! Dom was going to leave Philadelphia on Tuesday. He received a call on Monday from a company that had interviewed him a few weeks ago wanting a second interview! God has great timing!! Though they didn't offer him a job at that second interview, it was neat to see how God showed his sovereignty! We can trust Him with it all!

On Thursday I headed to Newark by train to get a plane to Calgary. Yep, it was a long day! When I arrived at the airport in Calgary Stef was there to say hi really quick, but she had to leave almost as soon as I arrived. Alberto had flown into Calgary the same day so he was going to pick up Dom and I and bring us to Red Deer. It was a real blessing to be able to spend time with him and his family! Thank you so much for all the rides, the hospitality, awesome food and everything else! Truly a blessing!

We stayed in Red Deer only until Sunday - it was weird how it all felt so familiar...like we had never left! Dom and I had the opportunity of helping Blayne and Janell prepare for their big day! I love how we had to spray the moss that Janell and her bridesmaids went searching for with raid!! Too funny!! The centrepieces looked fantastic with the added touch of the moss though! I have to confess Janell, after we sprayed it I saw a couple bugs happy and quite alive running around in it! ;) No worries though, they weren't there the next day!

The wedding was so beautiful and unique. I loved the planting of the tree in the ceremony, and how the moss was used throughout. The tribute to Janell's Dad was also so special! And just to let you know, if you wanted a community atmosphere, you got it! :)

The reception was awesome as well. We got to spend time with so many people from Crossroads. Dan Cochrane mentioned he had a word for us to come back ;) (yes, he was joking) Not sure that will happen anytime soon, but I may be connected to the missions with assessment teams...so who knows! Spending time with Curtis and Carlanna was great too, especially since they were headed out that day for new adventures in Winnipeg! (Thanks for the use of your car, that was so sweet) Hearing Dave Grobe and the band was wonderful and the fact that Dom and I surprised Blayne and Janell with our song was a sweet moment as well! I also have to give a special mention to Naomi and her fun dancing skills! I had a great workout! Though who knew that the two-step was beyond my mental capabilities! :P

Anyhow, the whole day was very special, so thank you Blayne and Janell for allowing us to be a part of it! :) We love you both!

Final Weekend of Certainty

So this marks the last weekend that Dom and I will be able to be together in Philly (at least that we know of for now). Though he has been working very hard at finding a job there hasn't been any company that has wanted to commit to taking him in. So to just enjoy our last certain weekend together Dom and I went out to 'george's'. A swanky restaurant near to us. (Why in the world are swanky restaurants named after old men? Earl's? George's? I should open up a Howard's!)

We had stumbled on a main line restaurant event where tons of restaurants on Lancaster were making three course meal deals. Apparently the one we randomly selected to go to was the best in the State! We happened to start a conversation with the couple who ate beside us. They didn't know any good jobs for Dom either...though the man had a company that was based in Hamilton! Go figure!

Today we decided to go to the beach. So we drove to Long Island. It started out sunny in Berwyn and ended up being stormy when we got there (we ended up chasing the storm that had just gone through our area)...it was an adventure just standing on the beach! And still there was a guy windsurfing! I saw him wipe out...it looked painful!

So that was our weekend! Now we get ready to go to Red Deer to celebrate the wedding of Blayne and Janell! YAY! :D

The Camper Saga Continued!

Yesterday we had a torrential storm that caused mass flooding all over the area. The guys at the mechanic shop told Dom they'd wait until the weather was better to start looking at it. The weather forecast had called for 10 days of straight rain at that point so we were a bit worried that it wouldn't get done by the time Dom needed it! However, today Dom got a call that the camper was done! It was just a disconnected wire....JUST a disconnected wire!!! Yeesh...I'm amazed at the intricacy of vehicles.

So we went and got the camper and took it for a test drive on the highway. Dom feels confident that the problem that started all this mess was taken care of with the replacement of the fuel pump. I'm thankful that it's back up and working!! God is Good!!
