A Building Made By God

When Solomon followed the Lord's instruction in building the temple, the stone was prepared beforehand in the quarry, so no tool sounded at the building site (I Kings 6:7). To us, this lack might signify a job shoddily done - not the design that we would deem worthy of God's house! But it should be clear that He is the One holding the building together, by His strength, not that of our tools.

In the New Testament the concept of our body being the temple of God confirms this idea. II Cor. 5:1-9 allows us to see that God is at work within us, preparing us to be a finished work in Him. Our tools of shaping ourselves are useless in the glory of God's eternal hand. To allow Him to build us up into the temple He envisions us to be is to surrender our tools and submit to God's leading.

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. By Your favour do good to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem." Psalm 51:17-18

If we desire to please the Lord & give our lives as a living sacrifice to Him, we must be moldable to His will. Broken, like the prepared stone of the quarry, being shaped for His good purpose. We are being designed by the Master Carpenter into a building that will stand for all eternity! Glory to God in the Highest!
