A Video!

I decided to try posting a video...I know it's old, but at least now I know how to do this!

Only in Honduras...

...will a school bus driver get so anxious to get through a red-light, he'll drive on the sidewalk to get past other cars...
...you can sell peacocks at street corners...
...will you be invited to one of your student's birthday parties because they think you're a 'fun' teacher...
...it can take 3 years for Honduras to realize you live here...
...it takes over 3 years for Canada to realize you live here...
...a soccer game gets more hype than big blockbuster movies...
...can you experience all four seasons (or feel like you're experiencing them) while going home from the city...
...do you get around using landmarks instead of street signs (they don't exist)...
...every salon straightens your hair instead of curls it...
...you can't get into your apartment because a swarm of bees has taken over your porch...
...you can go Christmas caroling in a t-shirt...
...every chocolate bar you open is old and moldy...
...ANTS!...
...and you can't wait to get back!

If my life had a soundtrack...

Next week we're headed home! We finished off our last full week of school for 2006 today. Don't worry, I won't get all nostalgic on you...I will just give you the facts! ;)

We're tired! What a busy week! Somehow our apartment made it through the week without having to make more than one meal! We were invited out to different places all week long! The Sapp's made a Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza that is better than a restaurant - and Mike isn't sharing any recipe secrets! The Zacapa's wowed us with their Tortilla Soup yet again, a Honduran specialty. Another spectacular feast was given by the grade 9 English class today. Betsy Saunders had her class invite teachers to their Renaissance Presentations where we ate great food while watching scenes from Romeo & Juliet. I was honoured to be invited by both classes! It was a very creative day!

We finished off our Secret Friend gift exchange today. Betsy added to my music collection! I'm thinking that if my life had a soundtrack it would be a fun time! No canned laughter though, that would be a bit odd...

Today we also had our last Bible Study of the year. The group was made up of all of the regular Bible Studies held weekly by teachers. The group ended up being small but very fun. The Laparra's had a couple of their older sons visiting, so they've been taking charge of different events at the school. It was well done! I hope the students were able to take a lot out of it! Other than the regular big bear hugs, silly conversations, good food, and fireside moments (just for you Liz)!

Now I think I'm ready to go! :)

Yay For Lee!

So if ever I'm in an accident, I found out that Lee Parson's got my back!...I mean, he's got my blood...I mean, he could give me his blood...and could it get any more confusing?! The bottom line is that both Lee and I are O negative! How reassuring that someone else is rare! ;)

I could do WHAT to my baby?!?

So my new pick-up line should be "Hey man, what's your blood type?". Yah...that got my attention too!

Today we went to get our International Driver's License. We drove down like mad because it closes at 4...we almost finished the whole process in time but the blood test slowed us down. (I should mention that they made me try to do an eye exam without my glasses on, I think it was just for laughs). Anyways...the rest of the group (names excluded - but it's all who own our car!) thought that the pin-prick was highly painful - giving full face reactions etc... maybe I have really high pain tolerance, or the lady decided to be nice to the one who looked the most fragile (ha!) but I didn't think it was that bad! I even geared myself up for it - all ready to make a big reaction! Meh...

So! I found out I was O negative...a more rare form than the rest of our foursome - two of them being A+ (hint: they both teach gym)...and one being O+ (well...you should be able to figure out who's left). Apparently I'm a universal donor and can give blood to anyone - bad idea though since I've been to Africa. But I can't receive from anyone but O negative. I feel very gypped.

We went online with this information and found out that if I married a man with a positive RH factor (like A+, B+...anything with +) then I could kill my baby!!! If my baby had a different blood type (RH factor) than me, apparently my body would attack the foreign blood! What a great way to start a life! :S

Apparently nowadays a shot can cure all and make everything right...and 10% of pregnancies have this problem. And also, my first child should be alright but any after that may have difficulties because my body is sensitized to the difference...sad to think being sensitive is bad! Crazy huh?

Don't worry, I am not planning on needing this information for a long time yet! :)
